Temperature at terminals
The terminals on all equipment shall be so placed, arranged and ventilated that any conductors or cables connected thereto will not be liable to be exposed to temperatures in excess of those permissible for the conductor material and the class of insulation of the conductors or cables, where such insulation is relied upon to prevent short-circuit or contact with material through which leakage may occur.
Where temperature conditions are such as will require the use of connecting cables of heat-resisting type, prominent marking shall be provided adjacent to the terminals to indicate the type of connecting cable necessary.
For terminals for the connection of supply flexible cords to portable equipment, the temperature rises, in general, shall not exceed 50°C (to allow the connection of flexible cords having maximum operating temperature of 75°C) except under the circumstances covered by Footnote h to Table 5.7, which allows a higher operating temperature.
